Our History

Bethel Church is nestled at the top of the hill just off North Galena Avenue in Dixon, Illinois. Its steeple can be seen from the Dixon Arch and from across the river–a familiar landmark in our community.

Our story began in 1922 with weekly prayer meetings and a shared vision to reach the people of Dixon with the gospel. The following year, the church formally organized as Bethel United Evangelical Church, with the name Bethel meaning "House of God."

The church’s first building, located on North Galena Avenue, was dedicated on March 30, 1924. Over the years, God used faithful pastors, leaders, and members to grow Bethel in strength, membership, and purpose. By 1969, the original building could no longer accommodate the congregation, and the decision was made to relocate. The first service at our current location, 131 North Court Street, was held on November 25, 1970.

Today, Bethel Church continues its mission through worship, discipleship, community outreach, and global missions, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in Dixon and beyond. As we look to the future, we remain committed to being a faithful gospel presence in our community.
